Broward County Attorney Represents Material Witness in FSU Law Professor Murder Case

Attorney Evan Hoffman of The Hoffman Firm is representing a material witness in the high-profile murder case of FSU law professor, Dan Markel.

In 2014 Markel was gunned down in the driveway of his Broward County home. According to recently released court documents, Luis Rivera and Sigfredo Garcia, two suspected gang members, cased Markel’s home the day before his murder to obtain information about his daily routine.

On July 18, 2014, the following day, Garcia and Rivera, allegedly approached Markel while he was backing out of his driveway and shot him in the head.

The court documents further allege, Garcia and Rivera were hired by the family of Markel’s ex-wife, who was desperate for her and the minor children to relocate to South Florida. Neither Markel’s ex-wife nor any of her family members have been charged or named as suspects at this time.

In the interests of the witness’ safety and client confidentiality, no further details can be released at this time.

Evan Hoffman is an experienced criminal defense attorney with offices in Broward County and Miami-Dade County, Florida.
