Broward County criminal defense attorney Evan Hoffman is representing a 17-year-old suspect accused of being one of three people involved in the alleged robbery and carjacking of Sanford Mayor Jeff Triplett on June 25. WKMG-TV reported that police responded at 2:14 a.m. to a reported armed robbery outside the home of a friend that Triplett was visiting.
Triplett was approached by three men, two of whom police said brandished a firearm and took Triplett’s car keys from him. The suspects also allegedly stole Triplett’s wallet before fleeing in his Mercedes-Benz.
The Sanford Police Department arrested an 18-year-old man and the 17-year-old suspect, although the third individual was not apprehended. Both of the teenagers were charged with carjacking with a firearm and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but the 18-year-old man was also charged with contributing to the delinquency or dependency of a minor.
The 18-year-old suspect was denied bail and remained in custody. The 17-year-old alleged offender was placed on secure detention.
